I understand that it has not been the tradition at Brook Street to open the chapel on Christmas Day, and so that’s how it will be this year as well. But I’m raising the question of whether we could do something, small, short and maybe earlyish on Christmas Day next year. A Christmas Day service isn’t something that everyone, or even most people want ot go to, but it would be nice for us to mark the day in some way, even if it’s just a few of us. We are a Christian chapel after all! Some people are alone on Christmas Day and others might appreciate spending a short quiet time at the chapel before heading into the rest of the day’s activities with family. Let’s talk about this before next year.
We’ve had some wonderful times together this year and we’ve gone through some tough things together as well. Post-Christmas we’ll start to think of the year ahead. Whatever it brings, it’s brilliant to be going into 2025 together.
Whatever you’re doing, whoever you’re with and wherever you are, I wish you a joyful and meaningful Christmas day. I’m so glad that we’re all connected through our wonderful chapel and our fantastic tradition.
Merry Christmas everyone, and a happy new year!
I would agree. It does look odd and a Christmas service is something that is definitely part of our history.
We always used to have a Christmas Day service for many years when I was a child. It was a huge tradition. Myself and the other children from the Sunday School would perform the Nativity and we would take a favourite Christmas present to show. I don't know when that tradition ended
